IT Glossary - On-Prem

The term “On-Prem” is short for on-premise. This refers to an organization who has server, networking or workstation computing on-site in their physical office. Traditionally, IT environments have been primarily “on-prem” via physical servers and workstations. More recently, with the prevalence of Microsoft Azure and comparable platforms, more and more organizations have chosen to migrate from “on-prem” hardware to cloud-based operations to reduce hardware costs and the associated risks of housing an IT environment in the office.
