IT Glossary - Multifactor Authentication

Multifactor Authentication

Multifactor authentication is more commonly referred to as MFA. This process requires multiple steps to verify a user’s credentials for a login for certain apps, accounts, databases, etc. Typically, MFA will require you to validate your access using a third party app, sms text messaging, phone call, or email. The process requires you to enter a code or validate a push notification that provides access to your secured destination. The goal is to create a multi-layered defense against unauthorized users. MFA has become significantly popular over the last two years as it’s been a proven process to help reduce breached systems and accounts.
